Critics Choice Awards digelar untuk ke-27 kalinya dan nominasi untuk penghargaan tahun 2022 sudah diumumkan. Film West Side Story dan Belfast mendominasi dengan masing-masing 11 nominasi.
West Side Story merupakan film arahan Steven Spielberg yang diangkat dari naskah musikal Broadway tahun 1957. Film ini menghidupkan lagi karakter-karakter seperti Tony, Maria, Bernardo, Riff, hingga Anita, dengan wajah-wajah muda, di antaranya Ansel Elgort, Rachel Zegler, David Alvarez, Mike Faist, dan Ariana DeBose. Meski pendapatan box office di pekan perdananya terbilang biasa-biasa saja, West Side Story mendapat pengakuan dari para kritikus film dan sertifikasi fresh dari situs agregator Rotten Tomatoes.
West Side Story diganjar nominasi Best Director, Best Picture, Adapted Screenplay, Best Costume Design, Best Production Design, Best Editing, hingga Best Cinematography. Ariana DeBose dan Rita Moreno sama-sama masuk ke nominasi Best Supporting Actress, sementara Rachel Zegler meraih nominasi Best Young Actor di debut layar lebarnya itu.
Belfast di sisi lain merupakan film arahan Kenneth Branagh yang dikemas dalam bentuk semi-autobiografi. Film ini mengeksplor kehidupan di Irlandia Utara pada tahun 1960 yang dilanda ketidakstabilan. Diperankan oleh Jamie Dornan dan Ciarán Hinds, film ini juga digadang buat masuk nominasi Oscar tahun depan.
Belfast mendapat nominasi di kategori Best Picture, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Editing, hingga Original Screenplay. Deretan pemainnya seperti Jamie Dornan dan Ciarán Hinds mendapat nominasi di kategori Best Supporting Actor, Caitríona Balfe masuk nominasi Best Supporting Actress, Jude Hill dinominasikan sebagai Best Young Actor, dan para pemain film ini diganjar nominasi Best Acting Ensemble.
Selain dua film tersebut, Dune arahan Denis Villeneuve dan The Power of the Dog karya Jane Campion meraih 10 nominasi buat Critics Choice Awards 2022 termasuk Best Picture. Beberapa film lain yang mendapat banyak nominasi, di antaranya Licorice Pizza (Paul Thomas Anderson) dan Nightmare Alley (Guillermo del Toro) yang masing-masing dinominasikan dalam 8 kategori.
King Richard arahan Reinaldo Marcus Green dan Don't Look Up arahan Adam McKay masing-masing dapat 6 nominasi.
Pemenang Critics Choice Awards 2022 akan diumumkan 9 Januari 2022. Malam penghargaan tahun ini akan dibawakan oleh Taye Diggs dan Nicole Byer.
