Blue October: Tak Kunjung Jadi Superstar

Jakarta - Termasuk 'Foiled', telah lima album diluncurkan Blue October, band asal Texas yang berdiri 10 tahun lalu. Dengan materi album yang enjoyable, tak sedikit yang bertanya, "mengapa mereka belum menjadi superstar?"Blue October terbentuk tahun 1996 dengan alternative rock sebagai aliran musik. 1998 adalah tahun di mana album pertama mereka diluncurkan. 'The Answers' judulnya. Sampai 2006 ini, total ada lima album yang beredar. 'The Answers' (1998), 'Consent to Treatment' (2000), 'History for Sale' (2003), 'Argue with a Tree' (2004), dan 'Foiled' (2006). Dari lima album tersebut, baru lewat 'Foiled' Blue October mampu masuk ke daftar album terlaris Billboard 200. Album yang menyuguhkan 13 lagu itu berada di urutan 29. Lirik yang kuat dengan alunan musik dengan kesan melankolis membuat 'Foiled' enjoyable di telinga pendengar. Mengapa Blue October sebagai peracik 'Foiled' tak melejit di antara musisi-musisi lain? Mungkin, sekali lagi mungkin, Blue October memang tak mau menjadi superstar. Dalam cover album mereka tertulis sebuah kalimat, "to prevent from being successful". Ada makna lebih mendalam di balik kalimat tersebut? Bisa jadi. Blue October memang handal mengutak-atik kata.
